Being a photographer and making that specific connection with the audience you are trying to reach is something easier said than done. I have spent a lot of time getting to know my camera and searching for various locations whether it be in Shreveport Louisiana or Marshall Texas. Finding locations for automotive shoots are somewhat easy. One spot that I find myself going back to if I am looking to do a quick shoot has to be the top of the Eldorado casino parking garage in Shreveport. It has always served as a low-traffic area with not too many people getting in your way or possibly looking at you strangely. However, the top of the Eldorado casino parking garage can be a high-traffic area for photographers.
A couple of weekends ago, I decided to get out and take some pictures but turns out others had the same idea as me. I had thought I was going to be the only person at the top of the parking garage. However, turns out that was not the case. I had seen two people doing graduation pictures and another doing some stock photography. As I had mentioned a little bit before about making a connection, one photographer came over and we both talked for a little and made a connection. He had done some automotive photography before but not a whole lot. He even asked if I was interested in possibly joining him in some shots in the future.
Something that I have been trying to do for a while is making more connections with photographers and getting my feet wet with doing more than automotive photography. Although, automotive photography is and will continue to be my main area of focus, stepping out of that comfort zone and getting used to photographing other things, and expanding my portfolio is something that will greatly increase the connection I make with future clients. It is only up from here and there is no stopping what this journey will hold. It is going to be a fun journey so buckle up and enjoy the ride!
